Hello! The upcoming week is going to fun and busy! It is Red Ribbon week and Halloween! Writing: This Friday, the students will turn in a nonfiction book they wrote for me to assess. I am so proud of how far there writing has come. This upcoming week we will be working on editing, partner editing, sharing, and adding text features into our writing. Reading: We are close to being text feature experts!! We had put in a lot of text feature work into our reading time. In our reading journals we have been writing about what we are learning.. Then if they need some research they can add in their interesting facts they found from reading time. Grammar: We are starting irregular verbs. We will be focused on having the students take a 'regular' verb and transform it into a irregular verb. (For example, Sink ----> Sank) Phonics: Next week we will work on 'ai' words Quiz on Friday: aid jail nail pail claim trail brain paint rain maid Math: 2.2- Next week we will review 2 MD 10 - Draw a picture graph and a bar graph to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph. 3.1 Next week I will introduce: 3 OA 4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers using the inverse relationship of multiplication and division. 3 OA 5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Reading-So impressed by the work each student did this week! Students continued to read nonfiction books but then had to find keywords and the meanings. Students also looked at text features and different strategies to learn the lingo of the book!
Read at least ten minutes a night! Writing- Almost every student is has published one nonfiction book! They are impressive! We will continue to practice writing nonfictions books. We are using mentor texts to try craft moves. We are also evaluating our writing daily using the nonfiction checklist! Phonics- We will review our skills we have learned so far this year! No new words this week! Grammar- We will review verbs next week. Homework will go home on Monday and is due Friday. Math- QUIZ MONDAY! 2.2 MGSE 2.G.2 –Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of the same size and count to find the total number of them. MGSE 2.G3. -Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares! 3.3 MGSE 3. OA 2. – Interpret whole number quotients of whole numbers. EX interpret 56 divided 8 as the number of objects in each share. Social Studies- This week we started talking about Georgia Beginnings! Our focus this week was the history of the Cherokee Indians. Next week we will talk about the Creek Indians! Have a great weekend! Reading- This week we continued to read nonfiction books. We asked questions such as “what is this book and part teaching me?” We looked closely at details and putting parts of the text together. Have students practice these skills at home.

We used a checklist to self-evaluate our work and are revising the draft. Grammar- I will introduce reflective pronouns next week. Homework will go home on Monday and is due Friday! Reading: This week we started our nonfiction unit. We are practiced paying attention to details and putting parts of the text together in our mind. During reading we would stop and jot thinking about what the book is teaching us. Writing: \ To match our reading unit we started writing nonfiction books. Each student got to pick a topic they are an expert on and write about it. Each day a mini lesson was taught on a skill to use when writing nonfiction. Grammar: Next week we will review the topics from quarter one. Math 2.2 Quiz on Thursday – identifying shapes MGSE 2.G.1. and MGSE 2. G.2 Today I introduce geometric shapes and vocabulary. We will practice identify, drawing triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes. We will continue this work next week. 3.1 Quiz on Thursday –representing groups of a whole MGSE 3.OA.1 and MGSE 3. OA.2 Today I introduced products of whole numbers - e.g. interpret 5x 7 as the totally number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects. We will continue this next week Science- Test Friday! I sent home study guide on Thursday. Students should know the following vocabulary: Evaporation, liquid, solid, gas, mass, melt, freeze, condensation, volume and matter.
