Hello,
Even though this was a short week we got so much accomplished! We completed a lot of pre-assessments and started new units this week. All of our units will be finished before Spring Break. Please make sure your child dis reading every night! Important Events: 2/28: PSCs Go Home 2/28: Spring Picture Day 3/8: Teacher Workday (NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS) 3/8: Teacher Workday (NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS) 4/1-4/5: Spring Break! Math: 2.2- This week we finished our work using different strategies to solve 3 digit addition and subtraction problems. We will review graphing and have a quiz on Thursday! 3.1-This week we continued working on fractions and next week we will continue to review. This week we will work on perimeter and will have a quiz Thursday! Reading: Our unit will be focused on non-fiction books in a book club. We have topics that we focus on (ocean life, animals, important people, important events, etc.) and we get to read a variety of books across different reading levels. This unit lets the students practice finding their correct reading level. I have the students practice the five finger rule. The students open the book and reading 2-3 pages. The students raise a finger for every word they don't know. If the students raise more than 5 fingers, that book is too hard. Phonics: Quiz Friday Came Cave Club Class Clap Cut Camp Cut Camp Carpet Candy Crash Writing: We are starting a new unit over science lab reports. This is one of our fun units, but it does have the students creating a project, experimenting with different objects, and filling out a lab report. We will be spending around 3 days working together on a project/experiment. Then the students will get to a form of the experiment themselves. Social Studies: We will be finishing up Jackie Robinson and we will starting Jimmy Carter this week. Students will culminate their second grade social studies year by using President Jimmy Carter as an example of how our state has changed over time. They will discuss his various political and personal roles using the themes of distribution of power and individuals, groups, and institutions. The ideas of location and time, change, and continuity will help students explore the differences in President Carter’s life and their own lives, and the changes that have occurred within President Carter’s lifetime.
