As a class we hit 15 minutes of reading stamina! So impressive! Our next unit will focus on reading nonfiction texts. Please encourage reading nonfiction texts at home to support what we are doing in class. Writing: We finished out narrative writing unit this week. On Wednesday we broke up into groups and shared our writing. Each student grew so much from their first pre-assessment. I will send writing home after conferences. Next week we will begin our nonfiction writing unit. Grammar: Next week we will learn about possessive nouns. Homework will go home on Monday and is due Thursday. On the back of the homework is a chart to help the students understand plural nouns. We will practice this work throughout the week. Phonics: I will introduce long A- we will work on this for the next two weeks. No quiz next week Math 2.2 MGSE 2.G.1. and MGSE 2. G.2 Today I introduce geometric shapes and vocabulary. We will practice identify, drawing triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes. We will continue this work next week. 3.1 MGSE 3.OA.1 and MGSE 3. OA.2 Today I introduced products of whole numbers - e.g. interpret 5x 7 as the totally number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects. We will continue this next week. SCIENCE This week we practiced sorting and identifying different types of matter. We had many discussions and explorations. On Thursday, we made Matter books. Reading: This week in reading we looked at how the author makes the WHOLE book come together. We also looked at the lesson the author is trying to teach us. We started this work last week but continued it this week. I got to meet with every student in strategy groups and individually. They are growing as readers! Writing: This week in writing we used mentor texts to help us build our writing. We also checked our writing goals with our writing checklist. I met with every student to check in on their writing and set goals. Grammar: Next week we will learn about collective nouns.. Homework will go home Monday and is due Friday! We ended the week talking about authors try and teach a lesson in a story. Writing: Ask your student about their narrative. We focused on craft and adding comparisons in our writing. Solve one and two step " how many more" and "how many less" problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs, We are off to such a great start this year! Reading: We have been practicing our skill strategies in order to become successful 2nd grade readers. We have learned the importance of "STOP, Think, and Retell". This Wednesday I will give a quiz grade on their ability to stop, think, and retell what was currently going on in their book. I canNext week we will be working on tricky words strategies and what you can do if you see a word you cannot read or don't know what it means. **We will have a quiz over this skill the following week.** Writing: We our continuing our narrative writing unit. Solve one and two step " how many more" and "how many less" problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs, Social Studies: This week will be reviewing the 5 Georgia regions, land forms, and 3 rivers! **We will have a test over this on Wednesday, 9/12. ** On Thursday, we will spend our social studies time celebrating how far we have come as Georgia experts. Our CAT moms will be baking four large sugar cookies in the shape of Georgia. Each table will decorate the cake by region, rivers, and land forms known to that region. In order for our project to run smoothly our CAT mom will be reaching out for items. Phonics:

In words like: elephant, trophy, phone, dolphin, etc. Quiz over PH words next Friday Red Words: only three words this week0 quiz will be on Thursday Here But That Writing: This week we will continue our personal narrative unit. The focus will be making sure writing makes sense and sounds right. We will also work through the process of revision. Reading: We will be working using strategies to figure out tricky words when we read. I will be pulling strategy groups during reading workshop. Grammar: We will still be reviewing writing a complete sentence with the correct punctuation. This upcoming week we will be focusing on Simple and Compound sentences.
Math 2.2 We will continue to work on adding four two digit numbers, This week we will also practice adding and subtracting 2 three digit numbers. I will be teaching another strategy to solve these problems. 3.0 We will also practice adding and subtracting 2 three digit numbers. We will be looking at ways to mentally add these numbers, Social Studies: I introduced the GA Rivers last week and we made books. We will review them daily. Quiz over locating the GA Rivers will be on Friday.. |
