We will be continuing our conversation about shadows. We will also continue to look at moon phases, Reading: This week in reading we talked about understanding literacy language. We also thought about what special meaning the author does the author want me to get?. Writing: This week we started we continued our poetry unit! Our big focused was on line breaks and making meaning of objects. We will continue next week! Grammar: We will be starting Antonyms, Synonyms, and Homonyms. A reminder (since it's been a while) of what each is is written below. -Antonyms: opposite meaning -Synonyms: same and similar meaning -Homonyms: spelled and pronounced the same, but have different meanings Phonics- OR words Quiz Friday torch short storm forty fork orbit hornet north forget order MATH QUIZ Thursday both levels ADV- QUIZ ON PLACE VALUE- we practice place value all week and I introduced adding 2 three digit numbers ACC- QUIZ ON SHAPES! We will also continue to look at moon phases, Reading: We have been REALLY focused on our stamina, expression, and fluency within our reading. We want to make sure our reading matches our fluency just right. If the author meant that line to be scary, then we read it in a scary voice. We have also learned about scanning ahead for punctuation. That way we are more prepared to read with fluent and expressive voices. Please continue to encourage nightly reading at home! Writing: This week we started our poetry unit! This unit is a lot of fun because we get to think differently as a writers. We've focused on starting with an emotion, pulling out memories, and listening for the music in our poems. Stay tuned for some amazing poems! I am already so impressed! January 11- PBIS pep rally 1:30pm in the gym January 14- Club and New Student Pictures February 14- STEAM DAY (more information coming) Science: We learned this week about stars and the sun! Ask your students what type of star the sun is (answer: yellow dwarf)! This upcoming week is will talk about shadows. Stay tuned for some cool fun facts that your students will be learning. Grammar: We will be focused on comparing the differences between adjectives and adverbs. Phonics: We will be focusing on words with -igh in them. Test Friday night high sight brighten fight light right flight tight January Writing: We will be starting a unit where we focus on poetry. This is one of our harder units for the students. We focus introducing the students to the sounds and feelings of poetry by having them read poems aloud in groups, with partners, and alone. We will be focusing within this whole unit on topics, structure, metaphors, literary language, and line breaks. Reading: We are starting our brand new unit working on comprehension, fluency, and expression! Below is a brief explanation of what each term means. Comprehension: How well you can understand the text and can answer questions Fluency: How well you can read the text at a just right pace Expression: How well you read the book like the author meant it to be read. Math 2.2 Next week we will continue to work on standard 3NBT 1 and 3NBT2. Students are practicing rounding and adding three digit numbers. 3.1 Assessment over area will be on Thursday Jan.17! Welcome back! I am so excited to start the second semester. We have so many great things planned. With the school year being half over our class is in need of a few things listed below: Glue sticks Kids scissors- ask your student if they have a pair, Kleenex Disinfecting wipes- I am wiping down tables, door knobs twice a day to prevent the flu etc. Tissues Hand soap Any of these items sent in would be a great help! Writing: Monday through Thursday this week we will be working on Georgia Performance tasks. This is prompt the state gives the school to help prepare them for state testing next year. On Friday, we will take our poetry pre-assessment. Reading We will be completing the same Georgia task practice in reading as well. Math 2.2 Standard: NBT 3, and NBT 2 This week we will work on place value and rounding numbers. 3.1 Standard: MD5 and MD 6 This week will continue to work on area of a rectangle and various ways to find the area, Science This week we will kick off our awesome astronomy unit!
